Happy Tax Day!
We will be closing our office tomorrow, Tuesday April 19th, to give our dedicated staff a much deserved day off after a strenuous tax season. Don’t worry though, we will be right back at it on Wednesday at 9 a.m. to serve your business accounting, tax, and advisory needs.
Thank you all for your continued support of our practice.
Why is tax day in the US the 18th this year?
This year there’s an official public holiday in the District of Columbia that falls on Friday the 15th. The fairly new holiday is Emancipation Day, which marks the anniversary of the Compensated Emancipation Act by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862.
The new holiday closes down the government offices in D.C., including the IRS. Looking forward to next year, the 15th will fall on a Saturday, pushing the filing deadline to Monday. However, Emancipation Day observed will be on Monday April 17, 2017, pushing the filing deadline to April 18th for the 2nd year in a row!
